How much does FDM 3D printing cost? (PLA, PETG, ABS, ASA)
Reference prices for FDM 3D printing per gram across PLA, PETG, ABS and ASA — from small samples to 50+ kg batches, plus modelling and post-processing costs.
The price of FDM 3D printing is not a single fixed number — it depends on the amount of material used, the type of filament, the geometry of the part and how much manual work it needs. This article shares the reference prices we use as a starting point for PLA, PETG, ABS and ASA.FDM 3D printed samples in different materials and colours
// PRICE PER GRAM — PLA / PETG / ABS / ASA
Price is calculated per gram of material used (including supports). The larger the volume, the lower the per-gram rate:
- 0 – 3 kg → €0.13/g
- 3 – 5 kg → €0.10/g
- 5 – 8 kg → €0.09/g
- 8 – 10 kg → €0.08/g
- 10 – 30 kg → €0.07/g
- 30 – 50 kg → €0.06/g
- 50+ kg → €0.05/g
This model applies to the standard FDM materials: PLA, PETG, ABS and ASA. Differences between these materials are small and absorbed within the same ladder — what matters is how much the part weighs and which volume bracket you fall into.Filament spool on a scale with coins — price is per gram
// SAMPLES
For a sample part (a test print before a batch) we charge €30 + shipping. Samples are usually printed within one day so you have the physical part in hand before committing to a larger quantity.
// TPU AND INDUSTRIAL MATERIALS
TPU (flexible filament) starts at €0.15/g and up, depending on Shore hardness and manufacturer. Special industrial fibre-filled materials (PETG-CF, PA-CF, PA6-GF and similar) have their own price ladder — the filaments themselves cost several times more, and printing requires hardened nozzles and material drying.
// WHAT CAN INCREASE THE PRICE
The per-gram rate covers the print itself. Additional items that can affect the final price:
- installing heat-set inserts for threaded connections
- removing support structures, especially on complex geometry
- post-processing: sanding, painting, smoothing
- 3D modelling or adapting an existing model
- special requirements for tolerance, colour or print orientation
// 3D MODELLING
If you do not have a ready STL / STEP file, we charge €40/h for modelling. In practice this is usually 1 – 3 hours for simple parts; complex assemblies and reverse engineering are quoted separately.
// LONG-TERM COOPERATION
For clients with whom we arrange long-term cooperation — regular orders, small-series production of spare parts, ongoing prototyping — the per-gram price drops further, below the ladder above. This is agreed on a per-project basis.
// LEAD TIMES
Lead times are flexible and depend on the current workshop schedule and volume. Samples are typically done in one day, small batches within a few days, larger batches by arrangement.
// A NOTE
The prices in this article are not fixed — they are a reference based on past projects. The final quote is always made against your model, quantity and technical requirements. For an exact figure send us an inquiry with an .stl / .step file or a description of the part.
